Cornu-Camus Côte de Nuits Villages 2020
Cornu-Camus is a small, family-run estate located in Burgundy’s renowned Côte de Nuits, a region famed for producing some of the finest Pinot Noir in the world. Their Côte de Nuits Villages 2020 is a reflection of both tradition and the region’s unique terroir, offering an elegant, terroir-driven expression of Pinot Noir. The 2020 vintage was marked by a warm growing season, producing ripe, concentrated fruit while maintaining the freshness and finesse characteristic of Burgundy’s best wines.
Appearance: Brilliant ruby red with a light garnet rim, showcasing the wine’s youthful vibrancy and elegance.
Aroma: Aromatically expressive, with ripe red fruit like cherry, raspberry, and wild strawberry taking centre stage. Earthy notes of forest floor and subtle hints of mushroom mingle with floral aromas of dried rose petals and violet. A touch of spice, including cinnamon and clove, adds complexity, reflecting the gentle oak aging.
Taste: Medium-bodied and fresh, with a bright core of red fruit flavours like red cherry, raspberry, and cranberry balanced by earthy undertones of dried herbs and soft spices. The tannins are fine and silky, giving the wine a delicate structure, while the lively acidity lifts the fruit and adds a refreshing edge. There’s a subtle minerality present, reflecting the chalky limestone soils of the region.
Finish: Long and elegant, with lingering notes of red fruit, earth, and a touch of spice. The finish is smooth and refined, with a clean acidity that keeps the wine fresh and poised.
Food Pairing: This elegant Pinot Noir pairs wonderfully with roast chicken with herbs or grilled salmon, where the wine’s bright fruit and acidity complement the delicate, savoury flavours of the dishes. It would also be an excellent match for mushroom risotto or duck breast, with the wine’s earthy notes enhancing the depth of the dish while its acidity balances the richness.
