La Trava is a boutique winery in Piemonte, dedicated to producing expressive Nebbiolo wines that reflect the Langhe’s prestigious terroir. Their Barolo 2019 is a classic representation of this noble variety, sourced from vineyards with limestone-rich soils that enhance its structure and complexity. Aged in large oak barrels, this Barolo balances power and elegance, offering firm tannins, vibrant acidity, and remarkable depth. While already displaying impressive character, it will continue to evolve beautifully with further ageing.

Appearance: Deep garnet with a striking brick-orange rim, showcasing Nebbiolo’s natural evolution. The wine is highly translucent, with slow, elegant legs that hint at its well-structured body and refined alcohol balance.

Aroma: Intense and multi-layered, with aromas of ripe red cherries, dried roses, and wild berries. Earthy notes of truffle, forest floor, and leather add depth, while hints of liquorice, cedar, and tobacco emerge from barrel ageing. Subtle nuances of dried herbs, balsamic, and orange peel develop with time, enhancing its complexity.

Taste: Bold and structured, with a core of red berry fruit supported by lively acidity. Sour cherry, pomegranate, and cranberry intertwine with layers of liquorice, dried thyme, and warm spice. The tannins are firm yet polished, giving the wine a powerful yet elegant mouthfeel. A delicate mineral streak adds precision, reflecting the vineyard’s terroir.

Finish: Exceptionally long and evolving, with lingering notes of dried roses, red fruit, and spice. The tannins remain persistent yet refined, suggesting excellent ageing potential. A final flourish of earthy truffle, tobacco, and balsamic lingers, leaving a sophisticated and memorable impression.

Food Pairing: Pairs beautifully with braised lamb shank, where the wine’s structure and acidity enhance the richness of the dish while complementing its savoury depth. Also an excellent match with wild mushroom and black truffle tagliatelle, as the wine’s earthiness harmonises with the umami flavours of the dish.
