Following the same traditional winemaking practices as the 2016 vintage, the 2017 Brunello di Montalcino reflects the unique characteristics of its growing season. The wine is crafted from 100% Sangiovese grapes, fermented in stainless steel, and aged for three years in large Slavonian oak casks.

Appearance: This vintage presents a vibrant ruby red colour with subtle garnet reflections, showcasing its youthful vitality and potential for graceful aging. The wine’s density in the glass suggests concentration, while its transparency at the edges hints at elegance.

Aroma: The aromatic profile is rich and inviting, with dominant scents of ripe cherries, red currants, and wild strawberries. Floral notes of lavender and rose petals intertwine with earthy undertones of tobacco, underbrush, and a hint of crushed stones. A layer of warm spice—clove, anise, and black pepper—adds intrigue, while balsamic notes and dried Mediterranean herbs like sage and thyme contribute to its complexity. Over time, hints of dark chocolate and a whisper of smoky oak emerge, further deepening the wine’s expressive nose.

Taste: On the palate, the 2017 Brunello di Montalcino offers a balanced expression of red fruit flavours, complemented by well-structured tannins and a lively acidity. The oak aging contributes subtle nuances of spice and a smooth, rounded mouthfeel. The wine’s layered complexity reveals touches of dried cranberry, liquorice, and espresso, adding to its depth and refinement.

Finish: The finish is enduring and elegant, with persistent notes of red berries, leather, and a delicate mineral undertone. A final flourish of sweet spice and dried floral elements leaves a lasting impression. The wine’s structure and acidity indicate promising aging potential, allowing for further development of complexity over time.

Food Pairing: This vintage pairs exceptionally well with rich dishes such as osso buco, roasted game, or aged cheeses like Gorgonzola and Asiago. The wine’s tannins and acidity make it a perfect match for slow-braised meats and hearty, umami-rich cuisine. Serving at a temperature of 16–18°C will enhance its aromatic profile and depth of flavour.
