Gentle Folk, established by Gareth and Rainbo Belton, is a boutique winery nestled in the Basket Range of the Adelaide Hills, South Australia. Initially marine scientists, the couple transitioned to viticulture in 2012, focusing on organic and sustainable farming practices. Their dedication has positioned Gentle Folk among the notable producers in the region, crafting wines that reflect both innovation and respect for traditional methods.

The 2024 Sauvignon Blanc is a testament to their commitment to expressing the unique terroir of the Adelaide Hills. This wine is crafted from select vineyards in Piccadilly and Balhannah, known for producing high-quality Sauvignon Blanc grapes. The wine undergoes barrel fermentation and full malolactic fermentation, contributing to its complexity and texture.

Appearance: Pale straw with bright green hues, indicating youth and freshness. The wine’s clarity and brightness suggest vibrancy, while the light viscosity hints at a balanced texture. Swirling the glass reveals delicate legs, hinting at its fine acidity.

Aroma: A beautifully lifted bouquet of citrus zest, green apple, and fresh herbs, with underlying notes of white peach and fennel. Subtle hints of flinty minerality and a touch of jasmine add further complexity as the wine opens.

Taste: Crisp and vibrant, with a core of zesty lemon, grapefruit, and green apple. The barrel fermentation adds a subtle creaminess, balancing the bright acidity. A hint of wet stone minerality and a whisper of savoury herbs contribute to the wine’s depth.

Finish: Long and precise, with refreshing citrus notes and a lingering mineral character. The acidity leaves a clean, mouthwatering sensation, while delicate herbal and floral nuances persist on the palate.

Food Pairing: This Sauvignon Blanc pairs beautifully with freshly grilled seafood, such as prawns or scallops, where its acidity enhances the sweetness of the shellfish. It also complements light salads with citrus dressings, creamy goat’s cheese, and delicate Asian dishes like Vietnamese rice paper rolls or sashimi, where its freshness cuts through umami flavours.
