Recchia, Grappa di Recioto 500ml
Recchia’s Grappa di Recioto is a refined and aromatic spirit crafted from the pomace of Recioto della Valpolicella, one of Veneto’s most historic sweet wines. Grappa production is a long-standing tradition in Italy, and Recchia, known for its expertise in Valpolicella wines, carefully distils this grappa to preserve the rich character of the dried grapes used in Recioto. Made in small batches, this grappa captures the essence of the appassimento process, which concentrates the flavours of the Corvina, Rondinella, and Molinara grapes before distillation.
The pomace is distilled in traditional copper alembic stills, allowing for a slow and precise extraction of aromas and flavours. The result is a smooth yet intensely fragrant grappa that showcases the dried fruit and floral characteristics of Recioto in a bold, warming spirit.
Appearance: Crystal clear and bright, with a silky, almost oily viscosity that clings to the glass, hinting at its rich texture and depth. The clarity suggests purity and expert distillation. When swirled, the grappa forms slow-moving legs, a sign of its full body and high alcohol content.
Aroma: Intense and complex, with notes of dried cherries, raisins, and honey. Floral hints of violet and rose emerge, intertwined with subtle spice, vanilla, and a touch of almond. A faint smoky and herbal quality adds depth, making the nose both inviting and sophisticated. As it opens, delicate notes of caramelised orange peel and toasted hazelnuts appear.
Taste: Smooth and warming, with layers of dried fruit, caramel, and toasted nuts. The natural sweetness of the Recioto pomace is balanced by a refined, clean alcohol presence. Hints of dark chocolate, orange zest, and cinnamon add complexity, while a touch of white pepper and herbal notes give it a structured, lingering profile. Despite its power, the texture remains silky and well-integrated.
Finish: Long and elegant, with a gentle warmth that fades into delicate dried fruit, spice, and almond. A final whisper of floral and vanilla notes leaves a luxurious and lingering impression. The balance between power and finesse makes it both a contemplative and approachable spirit, inviting another sip.
Food Pairing: Best enjoyed as a digestif after a rich meal, where its warmth and complexity cleanse the palate. It pairs beautifully with dark chocolate truffles, enhancing the deep cocoa flavours. For a classic Italian pairing, try it with aged blue cheese or a handful of toasted almonds to complement its nutty and floral characteristics.
