The Neldner Road Grenache Shiraz Mataro 2019 is an outstanding example of the traditional GSM blend from the Barossa Valley, one of Australia's premier wine regions. This blend showcases the individual strengths of each grape variety: the vibrant fruit and freshness of Grenache, the richness and depth of Shiraz, and the structure and earthiness of Mataro (Mourvèdre). The 2019 vintage, marked by warm conditions, has produced a beautifully balanced and complex wine with immediate drinkability and the potential to age gracefully.

Appearance: Deep ruby red with purple hues, indicating both concentration and vibrancy.

Aroma: The nose is expressive and aromatic, with ripe red and dark fruits such as raspberry, cherry, and plum, intertwined with floral notes of violet and dried herbs. There are also subtle earthy undertones and savoury spices like black pepper and clove. The Shiraz contributes notes of dark chocolate and spice, while Mataro adds a hint of leather and game, giving the bouquet great complexity.

Taste: On the palate, this GSM blend is medium to full-bodied, with a smooth, silky texture and finely structured tannins. Flavours of red cherry, blackberry, and plum are balanced by savoury elements like earth, black pepper, and dried herbs. The Grenache provides freshness and bright acidity, while the Shiraz adds richness and a velvety mouthfeel. The Mataro contributes depth and structure, rounding out the wine with a touch of spice and a slight mineral edge. The oak aging is well-integrated, adding subtle hints of vanilla and toast.

Finish: The finish is long and refined, with lingering notes of red fruit, spice, and a touch of savoury earthiness, leaving a harmonious and balanced aftertaste.

Food pairing: This Grenache Shiraz Mataro blend pairs wonderfully with grilled or roasted meats, such as lamb, beef, or pork. It also complements Mediterranean-inspired dishes, such as roasted vegetables, charcuterie, or hearty stews, and pairs well with hard cheeses like Manchego or aged Gouda. Ideal for casual gatherings or more refined meals, this wine offers both versatility and depth.
