Moroder, Rosso Conero Doc Aion 2023
The Moroder family, with a winemaking heritage dating back to the 18th century, has been a cornerstone in the viticulture of the Conero region in Marche, Italy. Their 'Aión' Rosso Conero DOC 2023 exemplifies their dedication to producing wines that reflect the unique terroir of this area. Crafted exclusively from Montepulciano grapes, this wine embodies the rich traditions and flavours characteristic of the region.
The vineyards are nestled around the Monte Conero promontory, benefiting from calcareous clay soils and a climate tempered by the Adriatic Sea. The grapes are hand-harvested in early October, ensuring optimal ripeness. Following a meticulous selection, the grapes undergo a gentle pressing and destemming. Fermentation occurs in stainless steel tanks, with a maceration period of 4-5 days on the skins and a slow fermentation lasting approximately 20 days at controlled temperatures between 21-24°C (70-75°F). The wine is then aged for 10 months in stainless steel and cement vats, preserving its fresh and fruity character.
Appearance: In the glass, 'Aión' presents a vibrant ruby-red hue with subtle violet reflections, indicative of its youth and vitality. The wine exhibits clarity and brilliance, suggesting careful vinification and a focus on preserving the grape's natural qualities.
Aroma: The nose is greeted with an inviting bouquet of fresh red fruits, notably cherries and wild berries, complemented by delicate floral notes and a hint of spice. These aromas reflect the primary characteristics of the Montepulciano grape, enhanced by the wine’s stainless steel maturation, which preserves its aromatic purity.
Taste: On the palate, 'Aión' is medium-bodied with a harmonious balance of vibrant acidity and soft tannins. Flavours of ripe red fruits are prominent, accompanied by subtle undertones of herbs and a touch of minerality. The wine’s freshness and approachable structure make it versatile and enjoyable in its youth.
Finish: The finish is clean and persistent, with lingering notes of red fruit and a slight spiciness. A gentle touch of earthiness and dried herbs emerges as the flavours fade, adding an extra layer of depth. The well-integrated tannins and balanced acidity leave a refreshing aftertaste, ensuring the wine remains lively and engaging with every sip.
Food Pairing: 'Aión' Rosso Conero DOC 2023 pairs beautifully with a variety of dishes, including pasta with tomato-based sauces, roasted poultry, and medium-aged cheeses. Its versatility also makes it an excellent companion to traditional Italian antipasti and grilled vegetables. Serving at a temperature of 16-18°C (60-64°F) is recommended to fully appreciate its fresh and fruity profile.
This wine showcases the Moroder family’s commitment to organic viticulture and their passion for producing wines that authentically represent the Conero region’s terroir and winemaking traditions
