Predicador Tinto Rioja 2022

Predicador Tinto Rioja 2022 is a characterful, modern Rioja from Benjamin Romeo (of “Contador” fame), sourced mainly from Tempranillo with a touch of Garnacha and other local varieties. Made from low-yielding bush vines and aged in oak, it delivers generous fruit, spice and savoury depth while keeping a fresh, vibrant profile that’s very drinkable in its youth.

Appearance:

Deep, vivid ruby with a dark, almost inky core and bright purple highlights at the rim. The colour is youthful and saturated, with slow, well-formed tears suggesting good extract and moderate-to-high alcohol.

Aroma:

Expressive and layered. Ripe black cherries, blueberries and plums lead, supported by redcurrant and wild strawberry. Beneath the fruit sit notes of liquorice, dried herbs and a touch of graphite. Subtle vanilla, cacao, sweet spice and a hint of toasted oak emerge with air, alongside a faint earthy, mineral edge.

Taste:

Dry, medium to full-bodied, with juicy, mouth-filling dark and red fruits—black cherry, plum, blackberry and raspberry. Tannins are ripe and polished, giving a firm but comfortable grip. Fresh acidity keeps the palate lively, while notes of liquorice, cocoa, clove and a touch of smoked spice unfold through the mid-palate. Oak is present but well-integrated, framing the fruit rather than dominating.

Finish:

Medium-long to long, with lingering dark berry, spice and a gentle balsamic, herbal note. The tannins taper smoothly, leaving a savoury, slightly mineral echo that invites another sip without heaviness.

Food Pairing:

A versatile partner for grilled and roasted meats—lamb cutlets, pork ribs, burgers, or chorizo and mixed grills. Excellent with tapas (morcilla, jamón, croquettes), hearty stews, roast chicken with paprika and herbs, or stuffed peppers. It also works well with semi-cured cheeses like Manchego, as well as mushroom or chorizo-based rice dishes.
