Soldera Case Basse is one of the most revered producers in Montalcino, Tuscany, renowned for crafting some of the finest Brunello di Montalcino wines. Founded by Gianfranco Soldera in the 1970s, the estate has a legendary reputation for producing exceptionally age-worthy wines with great depth, elegance, and complexity. The Soldera Case Basse Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 2019 continues this legacy, showcasing the meticulous vineyard management and traditional winemaking that have made Soldera a household name among collectors and wine enthusiasts alike.

The Case Basse estate is located on a small, carefully tended vineyard in the southern part of Montalcino. The unique microclimate, combined with organic farming practices, allows the Sangiovese grapes to achieve optimal ripeness while preserving natural acidity. Fermented with native yeasts and aged in large Slavonian oak casks for several years, Soldera's wines are known for their purity of fruit, structure, and remarkable ageing potential. The 2019 vintage is a particularly promising release, highlighting the power and finesse of the estate’s Sangiovese.

Appearance: Deep garnet with ruby highlights, showing remarkable concentration and vibrancy.

Aroma: The nose is complex and layered, with aromas of ripe red cherries, blackberries, and plums, interwoven with floral notes of violets and dried roses. Earthy tones of leather, tobacco, and forest floor emerge, alongside subtle hints of sweet spices, cedar, and a touch of balsamic.

Taste: Full-bodied yet beautifully balanced, with finely structured tannins and vibrant acidity. Flavours of dark cherry, black currant, and red plum are accompanied by notes of dried herbs, anise, and savoury earthiness. The oak influence is well-integrated, adding complexity with hints of vanilla, clove, and a light smokiness, without overshadowing the purity of the fruit.

Finish: The finish is incredibly long and persistent, with lingering notes of ripe red fruit, leather, and spices, supported by firm yet elegant tannins that promise further development over time.

Food Pairing: Soldera Case Basse Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 2019 pairs beautifully with rich, slow-cooked dishes. It would be an ideal match for braised beef or veal osso buco, where the wine’s tannins and acidity can cut through the richness, while its earthy complexity complements the depth of the dish. Another excellent pairing is wild boar ragù with pappardelle, where the wine’s savoury, herbal notes harmonise with the gamey flavours of the meat, enhancing the overall experience. This Brunello is also a wine to savour on its own, particularly after a few years of cellar ageing.
