Gareth and Rainbo Belton, founders of Gentle Folk, transitioned from marine science to viticulture, establishing their winery in the Basket Range of the Adelaide Hills. Their philosophy centres on minimal intervention and organic farming, allowing the unique characteristics of each vineyard to shine. The 'Vin de Sofa' is a playful nod to the French term 'Vin de Soif', meaning a wine for thirst, crafted for casual enjoyment and embodying the essence of their approach.

The 2024 'Vin de Sofa' is predominantly composed of Sangiovese (80%), with Syrah and Merlot complementing the blend. The grapes are sourced from various sites within the Adelaide Hills, benefiting from the region's cool climate and diverse soils, which contribute to the wine's vibrant acidity and complexity. The winemaking process involves whole-cluster co-fermentation in stainless steel, with two weeks on skins, followed by aging in stainless steel with malolactic fermentation. This method preserves the wine's fresh fruit character and natural vibrancy.

Appearance: Bright ruby red with a slight translucence, reflecting its light-bodied nature. The colour is youthful and vibrant, with a soft pink hue at the rim, suggesting freshness and early drinking appeal. Swirling the glass reveals a delicate viscosity, hinting at its juicy and refreshing texture.

Aroma: An inviting bouquet of red berries—strawberries, raspberries, and cherries—intermingled with subtle floral notes of lavender and lilac. Hints of nectarine and plum skin add a touch of stone fruit complexity, while a whisper of eucalyptus provides a refreshing lift.

Taste: Juicy and approachable, featuring flavours of tart cherries, cranberries, and a touch of sweet kirsch. The light-bodied palate is complemented by lively acidity, making it exceptionally drinkable. Soft tannins and a subtle savoury undertone contribute to its complexity without overwhelming its refreshing character.

Finish: Clean and crisp, with lingering notes of red fruit and a gentle spice. A subtle herbal nuance lingers, inviting another sip and making it an effortlessly enjoyable wine.

Food Pairing:
Margherita pizza, where the wine’s acidity and red fruit notes complement the tomato sauce and fresh basil.
Charcuterie board featuring prosciutto and mild cheeses, allowing the wine’s freshness to balance the richness of the meats and cheeses.
