Mont Redon Lirac Rouge 2022
Mont-Redon’s Lirac Rouge 2022 channels the sunlit warmth of the Southern Rhône with a more polished, fragrant edge—ripe Grenache-led fruit, garrigue spice, and a supple, well-shaped frame. Crafted under the estate’s meticulous approach (and long experience on these right-bank Rhône terraces), it’s a confident, drink-now red that still carries enough structure to reward a few years in the cellar.
Appearance:
Deep ruby to garnet with a dark, inky core and a subtle purple sheen at the rim. Bright, youthful clarity and slow-forming legs suggest generous ripeness and a medium-to-full-bodied style.
Aroma:
Black raspberry, cassis and cherry compote, layered with graphite, cracked pepper, dried rosemary, liquorice, and a distinctly Provençal note of garrigue and warm stones.
Taste:
Voluminous yet controlled—Grenache richness up front (blackberry, kirsch, ripe strawberry) met by Syrah’s dark spice and savoury lift, with Mourvèdre adding earthy depth. The palate is silky and rounded, but not soft: fine tannins and a savoury undercurrent of herbs, leather and scorched earth keep it poised and classically Rhône.
Finish:
Long, polished and gently warming, tapering through pepper, dried herbs and dark berries with a lingering, lightly toasty savoury edge.
Food Pairing:
Rib roast, lamb shoulder with rosemary, duck with olives, beef daube, ratatouille, grilled sausages, or mature cow’s cheeses (Camembert-style, Saint-Nectaire-style).
