Teusner 'Albert' Shiraz 2010 Magnum
Teusner 'Albert' Shiraz 2010 is a powerful and beautifully crafted Shiraz from the Barossa Valley, one of Australia’s most famous wine regions. Teusner Wines, founded in 2001 by Kym Teusner and Mick Page, has gained a stellar reputation for producing bold, expressive wines that capture the essence of old-vine Barossa fruit. The 'Albert' Shiraz is sourced from two of the Barossa’s oldest vineyards, which produce fruit of exceptional intensity and concentration. The 2010 vintage was particularly favorable, with excellent growing conditions that allowed the grapes to reach perfect ripeness. This magnum format (1.5L) is ideal for extended aging, allowing the wine to develop more complexity over time.
Appearance: Deep, opaque purple with a dense core and slight garnet hues at the rim, indicating some evolution while maintaining its concentration.
Aroma: Bold and intense, the nose offers rich aromas of ripe blackberries, dark plums, and blackcurrant, complemented by secondary notes of dark chocolate, leather, and a touch of smoky oak. Subtle hints of pepper, clove, and sweet spices add complexity.
Taste: Full-bodied and lush, the palate is layered with concentrated flavours of blackberry, plum, and black cherry. The wine's tannins are smooth and velvety, supported by well-integrated oak, offering notes of dark chocolate, vanilla, and a touch of espresso. There’s a perfect balance between the ripe fruit and the wine’s bright acidity, adding freshness to the bold character.
Finish: Long and lingering, with a savoury mix of ripe fruit, spices, and dark chocolate, finishing with a hint of smoky oak and a subtle mineral lift.
Food Pairings: This Shiraz pairs beautifully with grilled ribeye steak, where its bold tannins and rich fruit complement the juiciness of the beef. It also pairs wonderfully with slow-cooked lamb shoulder, where the wine’s depth and complexity enhance the tenderness and flavour of the dish.
