Greenock Creek Roennfeldt Road Shiraz 2018
Greenock Creek, a legendary name in the Barossa Valley, is renowned for producing some of Australia’s most powerful and concentrated Shiraz wines. The Greenock Creek Roennfeldt Road Shiraz 2018 comes from their iconic Roennfeldt Road vineyard, where low-yielding old vines deliver fruit of remarkable intensity and complexity. This single-vineyard Shiraz is crafted with minimal intervention to showcase the vineyard’s distinctive terroir. The 2018 vintage offers a wine of incredible depth, structure, and aging potential, representing the very best of Barossa Valley Shiraz.
Appearance: Deep, opaque purple with a black core, showing incredible concentration and richness.
Aroma: The nose is bold and complex, with layers of ripe blackberry, dark plum, and blackcurrant, mingling with earthy undertones of leather, tobacco, and dark chocolate. Hints of black pepper, liquorice, and a touch of vanilla and cedar from oak aging add further complexity and refinement.
Taste: On the palate, this Shiraz is full-bodied and opulent, offering intense flavours of black fruit such as blackberry, plum, and cassis. These fruit-driven flavours are complemented by savoury notes of dark chocolate, spice, and black olive. The tannins are firm yet silky, giving the wine structure, while balanced acidity provides freshness. The oak is perfectly integrated, contributing subtle spice, vanilla, and a creamy texture.
Finish: The finish is long, powerful, and elegant, with lingering dark fruit, spice, and earthy undertones, reflecting the wine’s depth and exceptional aging potential.
Food pairing: This Roennfeldt Road Shiraz pairs beautifully with rich, robust dishes such as braised lamb shanks, slow-cooked beef ribs, or grilled ribeye steak, where the wine’s bold flavours and tannins complement the meaty richness. It also works well with strong, aged cheeses like blue cheese or sharp cheddar, enhancing both the savoury and sweet aspects of the wine.
