Ada Wine Co.Mad Hattie 2024
Ada Wine Co. Mad Hattie 2024 is a distinguished red wine from South Australia, produced by the innovative Ada Wine Co., established in 2018. The winery focuses on crafting expressive, small-batch wines that highlight the diversity of South Australia's wine regions.
The 2024 vintage is a blend of 70% Grenache and 30% Pinot Noir. The Grenache grapes were sourced from the Barossa Valley and McLaren Vale, while the Pinot Noir was sourced from the Adelaide Hills. The winemaking process involved destemming the Barossa Grenache and fermenting it on skins for two weeks. The McLaren Vale Grenache underwent 30% whole bunch fermentation on skins for five weeks, and the Pinot Noir was 100% whole bunch fermented on skins for four weeks. All batches were matured in seasoned French oak barriques for six months before blending and bottling.
Appearance: Medium ruby red with garnet hues, displaying a bright and translucent core. The colour suggests vibrancy and elegance, with a slight brickish tinge hinting at its complexity and structure.
Aroma: An expressive and fragrant nose, bursting with juicy red fruits such as raspberry, cranberry, and wild strawberry. Underlying notes of baking spice, dried rose petals, and crushed herbs add depth, while subtle earthy nuances of forest floor and savoury black tea provide complexity.
Taste: Light to medium-bodied, yet beautifully layered with a silky texture. The palate delivers vibrant red berry flavours of pomegranate, red cherry, and blood orange, balanced by savoury undertones of white pepper, dried thyme, and gentle oak spice. The interplay between Grenache’s fruit-forward charm and Pinot Noir’s delicate elegance creates a wine that is both fresh and textural, with a touch of minerality adding lift.
Finish: Long and refined, with lingering notes of bright red fruit, delicate spice, and a fine, chalky tannin structure. The vibrant acidity keeps the wine lively and refreshing, while the gentle savoury elements provide a lingering complexity.
Food Pairing: This blend pairs beautifully with roasted duck, where its fruit-driven palate complements the richness of the dish. It also shines alongside grilled lamb with Mediterranean herbs, bringing out the wine’s savoury and spice-driven nuances. A fantastic match for mushroom-based dishes or soft cheeses, enhancing the wine’s earthy and textural qualities. Best served slightly chilled to highlight its freshness and vibrancy.
