Ognissole, a renowned winery in Puglia, Italy, is celebrated for producing wines that reflect the rich heritage and terroir of the region. The Brecciato 2016 is a distinctive blend of Nero di Troia and Montepulciano (locally known as Morellone), showcasing the harmonious marriage of these two indigenous grape varieties.

The vineyards are situated near the hills of Alta Murgia, at altitudes ranging from 250 to 350 metres above sea level, in the Canosa di Puglia area. The calcareous, slightly clayey, and stony soils, combined with a typically dry climate, provide an ideal environment for cultivating these grape varieties. The 2016 vintage benefited from favourable weather conditions, resulting in grapes of exceptional quality.

Appearance: The wine exhibits a deep ruby-red colour with subtle violet reflections, indicating its richness and youthful vibrancy. The clarity and brilliance in the glass reflect meticulous winemaking practices.

Aroma: On the nose, it offers intense aromas of ripe cherry and plum, complemented by subtle spicy notes of thyme and a touch of liquorice. As the wine opens, hints of blackcurrant and wild berries emerge, adding complexity to the aromatic profile.

Taste: The palate is full-bodied and well-structured, showcasing a harmonious balance between freshness and warmth. Flavours of juicy raspberry and cherry are interwoven with spicy nuances and a hint of dark chocolate. The wine's velvety tannins and balanced acidity contribute to a smooth and enjoyable mouthfeel.

Finish: The finish is long and pleasantly flavoured, with the fruity and spicy notes gradually giving way to a lingering aftertaste of subtle herbs and a touch of minerality. The wine's balanced structure ensures a satisfying and memorable conclusion.

Food Pairing: This Brecciato pairs exceptionally well with savoury dishes such as lasagna, veal filet with wild mushrooms, and aged cheeses. The wine's depth and complexity enhance the richness of these dishes, making it a versatile companion for a variety of culinary experiences.

The Ognissole Brecciato 2016 exemplifies the winery's dedication to producing wines that capture the true essence of Puglia's indigenous grape varieties and terroir, offering a distinctive and enjoyable tasting experience.
