Brokenwood Rosato 2023
Brokenwood Rosato 2023 is a distinguished rosé wine from New South Wales and Victoria, Australia, produced by the esteemed Brokenwood Wines. Established in 1970, Brokenwood has built a reputation for crafting premium wines that reflect the unique characteristics of Australia's diverse wine regions.
The 2023 vintage marks the eighth release of this popular Rosato, a blend of Sangiovese and Nebbiolo grape varieties. The winemaking process involved partial foot-stomping of the fruit, followed by overnight skin contact to extract the delicate coral hue and enhance aromatic complexity. The majority of the juice was fermented in stainless steel tanks to preserve freshness, with a small portion fermented in old oak to add texture and depth.
Appearance: Pale coral pink with brilliant clarity, shimmering with a slight coppery hue at the rim. The wine has a delicate viscosity, forming soft, lingering tears when swirled. Its light, vibrant colour suggests freshness and elegance.
Aroma: Fresh and floral, with alluring notes of Turkish delight, rose water, and crushed red berries. Hints of pink grapefruit, spice, and dried herbs add complexity, while subtle earthy undertones provide depth.
Taste: Bright and expressive, featuring a lively balance of fresh red fruit flavours such as wild strawberries and pomegranate. Gentle spice and ginger notes weave through the mid-palate, supported by a refreshing acidity that enhances the wine’s crisp and textured profile. A touch of savoury minerality adds an extra layer of refinement.
Finish: Dry and mouth-watering, with lingering spice and a clean, mineral-driven aftertaste. The wine’s zesty acidity keeps it fresh and vibrant, leaving a crisp and refreshing impression.
Food Pairing: This Rosato pairs beautifully with Italian cuisine, such as antipasti and grissini, where its bright acidity cuts through the richness of cured meats and cheeses. It also complements grilled seafood, fresh burrata with heirloom tomatoes, or a summer salad with citrus dressing, enhancing the freshness and complexity of the dish. Best served well-chilled to highlight its vibrant fruit and crisp finish.
