Simone Scaletta is a dedicated winemaker based in Monforte d’Alba, in the heart of Piemonte’s Langhe region. With a deep respect for tradition and terroir, he produces expressive, small-batch wines that showcase the natural character of the grapes. His Dolcetto d’Alba 2019 is a classic representation of this beloved Piemontese variety, known for its vibrant fruit, approachable tannins, and food-friendly nature. Fermented in stainless steel to preserve its freshness, this Dolcetto captures the purity of the grape while offering depth and structure.

Appearance: Deep purple with violet reflections, showing its youthful vibrancy. The wine has a brilliant, almost inky core, with a lighter rim that hints at its medium-bodied nature. Swirling reveals good viscosity, with elegant, slow-moving legs.

Aroma: Expressive and fruit-forward, with ripe black cherries, blueberries, and wild blackberries leading the nose. Floral notes of violets and a touch of dried herbs add freshness, while subtle hints of liquorice and almond bring complexity. The absence of oak allows the purity of the fruit to shine.

Taste: Juicy and well-balanced, with bright red and dark berry flavours complemented by lively acidity. The palate offers notes of crushed blackberries, red plums, and a touch of black pepper, adding a subtle spice. The tannins are soft yet present, giving the wine a smooth yet structured feel. A hint of bitter almond and fresh earthiness adds depth on the mid-palate.

Finish: Clean and refreshing, with lingering dark fruit, floral notes, and a slight mineral edge. The acidity keeps it lively, while the gentle tannins provide a satisfying grip without overwhelming the fruit. A final touch of liquorice and dried herbs adds intrigue, making it a versatile and enjoyable wine.

Food Pairing: Pairs beautifully with tajarin pasta with sausage ragù, where the wine’s acidity balances the richness of the dish while enhancing its savoury elements. Also an excellent match with grilled aubergine and ricotta, as the wine’s fruitiness contrasts with the creamy and smoky flavours.
