Firriato Branciforti, Feudi Branciforti Syrah 2021
The Branciforti family, with deep roots in Sicilian history, has long been associated with the island's viticulture. Their collaboration with Firriato led to the creation of the Feudi Branciforti dei Bordonaro line, celebrating Sicily's rich heritage and diverse terroirs. The 2021 Syrah is sourced from the Gelso Grande estate, situated in the Trapani countryside between Mount Erice and the Egadi islands. These vineyards, located on gentle hills at altitudes between 300 and 400 metres above sea level, benefit from medium-textured soils with a clayey tendency, providing an ideal environment for Syrah cultivation.
Appearance: Deep, intense ruby red with violet reflections, indicating richness and concentration. The wine’s opacity hints at its depth and structure, while the bright rim suggests freshness and youth.
Aroma: A beautifully layered bouquet of ripe cherry and black plum, lifted by hints of black pepper, clove, and Mediterranean herbs. Subtle notes of cocoa and vanilla emerge, adding complexity and warmth.
Taste: Suave and velvety on the palate, revealing a generous core of juicy red and black fruit. A lively acidity balances the richness, while fine-grained tannins provide structure and length. Hints of liquorice and dark chocolate develop as the wine unfolds.
Finish: Long and refined, with elegant acidity that enhances the wine’s freshness. The lingering flavours of ripe red berries, sweet spice, and a touch of earthiness create a balanced and satisfying finish.
Food Pairing: This Syrah pairs excellently with dishes like lasagna with ragout, where its bold fruit and spice complement the richness of the dish. It also works beautifully with veal filet with wild mushrooms, enhancing the umami depth, or with stewed boar for a rustic and flavourful pairing.
