Castrum Morisci Gallicano 2022
Castrum Morisci Gallicano 2022 is a striking, amphora-made white from the Marche’s hills around Moresco—organic, unfiltered, and built on Pecorino with a supporting touch of Passerina to round out the edges. Fermented and raised in terracotta with extended skin maceration and bâtonnage, it drinks like a “serious” coastal white: golden, savoury, textured, and quietly age-worthy.
Appearance:
Deep golden yellow with subtle amber glints—hazy-leaning in a natural-wine way, with a richer viscosity that hints at skin contact and amphora time.
Aroma:
An intriguingly layered nose: roasted hazelnut and almond skin, candied citrus peel and dried apricot, then fresher flashes of cucumber, green tea and chamomile. There’s also a straw/hay note and a faint aniseed lift that keeps it complex and distinctive.
Taste:
Dry, broad and structured. Stone fruit and preserved lemon lead, quickly joined by a gently waxy, leesy mid-palate and a savoury, nutty undertone. Skin maceration brings a light tannic grip (more “white-tea” than red-wine tannin), while bright acidity and mineral salinity keep the wine lifted and tense through the finish.
Finish:
Long and mouthwatering—citrus zest, crushed rock minerality, anise and herbal tea linger, tapering into a clean, slightly phenolic, saline close.
Food Pairing:
Mussels gratin, smoked fish, grilled sardines or mackerel, calamari, richer seafood pastas, passatelli in broth, or slow-cooked pork with fennel and lemon.
