Huber Obere Steigen Gruner Veltliner 2023 comes from the Traisental DAC in Lower Austria, a region recognized for its crisp, mineral-driven white wines. The grapes are sourced from old vines (25–50 years) planted in the village of Nussdorf. The soils consist of sandy loam on the surface, with underlying limestone conglomerate, providing both richness and freshness. The microclimate, influenced by small terraces, helps to create a balance of ripeness and lively acidity.

This is a certified organic wine. Grapes are hand-selected at physiological ripeness, given 8 hours of cool skin contact, then fermented in stainless steel tanks at 19 °C. The wine is matured for 4 months on the lees, also in stainless steel, to preserve freshness and purity. The finished profile shows 12.5% alcohol, 6.2 g/l acidity, and 2.5 g/l residual sugar, making it a dry style.

Appearance
Bright medium yellow-green with shimmering clarity and youthful luminosity. The color reflects both freshness and concentration.

Aroma
Classic Grüner Veltliner spice shows immediately – notes of white pepper and herbs, alongside orchard fruits like yellow apple and pear. Accents of quince, clementine zest, Granny Smith apple, and lime add further complexity, lifted by a mineral undertone.

Taste
The palate is lively and juicy, marked by citrus and stone fruit, framed by herbal and peppery freshness. There is fine tension between ripe fruit and brisk acidity, with a distinct mineral drive. The wine carries good depth and precision, showing energy across the mid-palate.

Finish
Long, cool, and elegant with lingering minerality, garden herb nuances, and a filigreed texture that reflects both terroir and careful winemaking.

Food Pairing
Excellent with seafood, poultry, and pork, but also versatile enough for Asian cuisine, fresh vegetables, and salads. Its spice and mineral lift make it particularly suitable with lightly spiced or aromatic dishes. Best served at 10–12 °C. Drinking beautifully now, with potential to age until around 2034.
