Glenelly Estate, Lady May 2019

Glenelly Estate Lady May 2019 is the estate’s flagship Bordeaux-style red, named in honour of May de Lencquesaing and drawn from Glenelly’s finest Stellenbosch parcels. Cabernet-led and classically shaped, it is a wine of poise and quiet power, offering dark fruit depth, graphite-like structure, and the polished tannins that give Lady May its enduring sense of refinement.

Appearance:

Deep ruby to garnet in the glass, with a dense youthful core and excellent clarity.

Aroma:

Complex and lifted, showing cassis, blackcurrant, blackberry, and dark cherry layered with violet, graphite, cedar, cigar box, cocoa, and dried herbs. There is a distinctly classical feel to the bouquet, combining fruit purity with savoury depth.

Taste:

Structured and finely detailed, with ripe black fruit, cassis, bramble, and hints of black cherry supported by notes of cocoa, cedar, wild herbs, and subtle spice. The palate is firm yet polished, with fresh acidity and powdery, well-shaped tannins giving both drive and elegance.

Finish:

Long, savoury, and persistent, tapering through dark berries, graphite, cedar, and a faint mineral note with excellent composure.

Food Pairing:

Superb with roast lamb, braised beef, venison, ribeye, slow-cooked short ribs, or aged hard cheeses.
