Sirch is a well-respected winery in Friuli-Venezia Giulia, known for its dedication to crafting elegant, terroir-driven wines that reflect the region’s rich winemaking heritage. Specialising in Pinot Grigio, Sirch embraces the traditional ramato (copper-hued) style, which involves short skin contact during fermentation to extract colour, texture, and complexity. The 2022 vintage experienced a balanced growing season, allowing for excellent ripening while maintaining the freshness and acidity that define high-quality Pinot Grigio.

Pinot Grigio Ramato undergoes a brief maceration on the skins, giving it its characteristic copper hue while enhancing aromatics and structure. Fermented in stainless steel and aged on fine lees, the wine retains its bright fruit character while developing a smooth, refined texture.

Appearance: Delicate copper with rose-gold reflections, shimmering with clarity. The wine’s unique hue is a result of the gentle skin contact, creating a visually striking presence in the glass. A light viscosity hints at a textured yet fresh mouthfeel.

Aroma: Expressive and inviting, with aromas of wild strawberries, blood orange, and white peach. Floral notes of rose petals and hibiscus add elegance, while subtle hints of dried herbs and crushed almonds bring depth. As the wine opens, delicate spice and a touch of honey emerge, enhancing its complexity.

Taste: Medium-bodied and smooth, with flavours of ripe citrus, red apple, and dried apricot. The gentle tannins from skin contact add a fine grip, while fresh acidity keeps the wine vibrant and balanced. A touch of ginger, white pepper, and a slight saline note create an intriguing interplay of fruit, spice, and minerality.

Finish: Long and refined, with lingering citrus, red fruit, and a delicate almond note. A subtle mineral streak enhances the wine’s structure, leaving a crisp and elegant impression. The balance of fruit, acidity, and texture ensures a complex yet highly drinkable wine.

Food Pairing: A perfect match for grilled prawns with citrus and herbs, where the wine’s acidity complements the dish’s freshness. It also pairs beautifully with prosciutto and melon, balancing the sweet and savoury contrast. For a plant-based option, try it with roasted squash and sage, where the wine’s texture and spice harmonise with the dish’s earthy sweetness.
