Kershaw’s The Smuggler’s Boot Chardonnay 2023 is part of the winery’s more exploratory range, created to capture intriguing vineyard parcels and a slightly freer, more playful side of Richard Kershaw’s winemaking. Even so, the wine remains precise and polished, offering a cool-climate Chardonnay expression with bright fruit, subtle oak detail, and impressive textural finesse.

Appearance:

Pale lemon with a bright straw sheen, clear and polished in the glass.

Aroma:

Lifted and inviting, with notes of citrus peel, yellow peach, ripe apple, and Forelle pear, layered with gentle spice, light toast, and a soft oatmeal nuance.

Taste:

Fresh and focused, with lively flavours of lemon slices, ripe apple, pear, and stone fruit. The palate has a pithy, energetic texture, while a soft core of ripe fruit, oatmeal, and subtle spice fills out the mid-palate beautifully.

Finish:

Long, poised, and gently creamy, with lingering citrus brightness, soft oak spice, and a refined savoury edge.

Food Pairing:

Excellent with grilled white fish, roast chicken, creamy pasta dishes, seared scallops, or mushroom risotto.
