Yarra Yering, founded in 1969 by visionary Dr Bailey Carrodus, remains one of Australia's most distinguished and revered wineries. Situated in Victoria’s esteemed Yarra Valley, the estate has consistently produced wines celebrated for their elegance, balance, and profound ageing potential. The iconic Dry Red No. 2 is inspired by the Rhône Valley, elegantly blending Shiraz, Viognier, and Marsanne to craft a wine of exceptional complexity and sophistication. The outstanding 2022 vintage exemplifies the refined, aromatic, and vibrant character for which Yarra Yering is renowned, receiving widespread critical acclaim with scores consistently surpassing 95 points.

Grapes for Dry Red No. 2 thrive on gentle slopes in the cool-climate conditions of the Yarra Valley, where ancient, rocky soils rich in ironstone and clay-loam impart distinctive minerality, structured tannins, and aromatic complexity. Meticulous vineyard management, careful hand-harvesting, co-fermentation of Shiraz with small amounts of Viognier and Marsanne, and maturation for approximately 15–18 months in French oak barriques ensure harmonious integration, refinement, and remarkable elegance.

Appearance: Vibrant, deep ruby-red with elegant violet reflections, showcasing remarkable clarity and youthful brilliance. Medium-to-full-bodied viscosity gently coats the glass, forming graceful, refined legs.

Aroma: Complex, alluring bouquet of ripe blackberries, dark cherries, and plum fruit, beautifully intertwined with floral nuances of violets and subtle hints of apricot blossom. Delicate layers of white pepper, spice, liquorice, and subtle mineral undertones enhance aromatic depth and sophistication.

Taste: Elegantly structured and harmonious palate, presenting rich, vibrant flavours of blackberry, plum, and dark cherry, complemented by refined notes of gentle spice, white pepper, subtle herbs, and delicate floral undertones. Silky, polished tannins and vibrant acidity deliver impeccable balance, depth, and refinement.

Finish: Persistent, elegant finish, lingering with nuanced impressions of dark fruits, spice, floral notes, and subtle minerality. The wine concludes gracefully, emphasising its sophisticated complexity and finesse.

Food Pairing: Superb paired with slow-roasted lamb shoulder served alongside creamy potato gratin and rosemary-infused jus, or grilled duck breast accompanied by wild mushrooms and truffle-infused sauce.
