Château Troplong Mondot is one of the most prestigious estates in Saint-Émilion, located on the famous limestone plateau overlooking the village. Known for producing wines of power and elegance, the estate dates back to the 18th century, though it came to prominence under the ownership of Christine Valette in the late 20th century. Now owned by the SCOR group, Troplong Mondot consistently crafts some of the most sought-after wines of the Right Bank, achieving Premier Grand Cru Classé status in Saint-Émilion.

The 2015 vintage is considered one of the best in Bordeaux’s recent history, particularly in Saint-Émilion. Warm weather during the growing season allowed for excellent ripeness, while cool nights preserved acidity and freshness. The clay-limestone soils of the estate give the wine depth, structure, and a distinctive mineral backbone. With the blend dominated by Merlot, supported by Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, the 2015 Troplong Mondot is a wine of exceptional complexity and aging potential.

Appearance: Deep, almost opaque garnet, with rich purple hues on the rim, showcasing both its concentration and youth.

Aroma: An intense and aromatic bouquet of ripe black fruits—blackberry, plum, and blackcurrant—interwoven with notes of graphite, tobacco, and truffle. Hints of violets and dark chocolate, along with subtle cedar and vanilla, reflect the influence of careful oak aging.

Taste: Full-bodied and rich, with layers of black fruits—plum, cassis, and black cherry—balanced by earthy undertones and minerality from the limestone soils. There are complex flavours of mocha, spice, and a touch of liquorice, underpinned by firm yet velvety tannins. The wine shows great depth and concentration, but with a refreshing acidity that keeps it balanced and lively.

Finish: Exceptionally long and polished, with persistent notes of ripe dark fruits, crushed stones, and a lingering hint of sweet spice. The tannins, while still present, are refined and promise a long aging potential, with a clean, mineral-driven finish.

Food Pairing: This luxurious wine pairs beautifully with beef Wellington, where the rich, savoury flavours of the dish complement the wine’s depth and tannic structure. It would also be a perfect match for roast venison or duck breast with a blackberry sauce, enhancing the gamey richness of the meat while harmonising with the dark fruit and earthy notes of the wine.
