Rijk’s, Pinotage 888 Gold 2016

Rijk’s Pinotage 888 Gold 2016 is the estate’s flagship Tulbagh Pinotage, a rare collector-style release made in very small quantities and matured at length in French oak. Powerful yet polished, it shows Pinotage in a luxurious, age-worthy form, combining ripe fruit concentration with spice, creamy texture, and finely integrated tannin.

Appearance:

Deep garnet-ruby with a dense, youthful core and a bright crimson rim.

Aroma:

Intense and layered, with blackcurrant, cherry, cranberry, and ripe plum, followed by cinnamon, vanilla, coconut, dark chocolate, and a touch of sweet oak spice.

Taste:

Full-bodied and richly textured, showing ripe red and black fruits, creamy oak, and warm spice. The palate is plush and concentrated, yet remains harmonious, with silky tannins, balanced acidity, and impressive depth.

Finish:

Long, lingering, and savoury, tapering through dark berries, spice, cocoa, and polished oak.

Food Pairing:

Superb with venison, roast duck, beef fillet, slow-braised short ribs, or richly seasoned lamb dishes. It also works beautifully with mature hard cheeses.
