Stoke Roussane 2023
Stoke Roussanne 2023 is a rare, small-batch white from Kangaroo Island, crafted by Nick Dunmore with a minimal-intervention mindset and a strong sense of place. Drawn from a tiny planting in Stoke’s Cassini vineyard and handled with gentle pressing, native fermentation and patient lees time, it lands in that sweet spot between coastal freshness and Rhône-like texture—generous without feeling heavy.
Appearance:
Lemon-yellow with a subtle green rim; bright, clean and lightly viscous in the glass.
Aroma:
Nashi pear, white peach and apricot, lifted by mandarin peel and honeydew. Underneath: almond meal, a faint floral note and a saline, mineral suggestion that nods to its maritime home.
Taste:
Dry and textured, with ripe pear and stone fruit framed by preserved lemon, gentle spice and a quietly savoury, leesy creaminess. Lively acidity keeps the palate taut and mouth-watering, while the fruit stays pure and precise rather than overtly tropical.
Finish:
Long, persistent and mineral-driven—citrus peel, orchard fruit and a clean, coastal freshness that lingers.
Food Pairing:
Grilled white fish with lemon-herb butter, mussels or pipis, roast chicken with creamy mushroom sauce, seafood linguine, or a vegetable tart with caramelised onion and thyme.
