Teusner 'Joshua' GMS 2006 Magnum
Teusner 'Joshua' GMS 2006 is a vibrant and beautifully crafted Grenache, Mataro (Mourvèdre), and Shiraz blend from the Barossa Valley, reflecting the dedication of Kym Teusner and Mick Page to showcasing the purity of old-vine fruit. Unlike many Barossa reds, 'Joshua' is unoaked, allowing the bright fruit character to shine through, with the Grenache contributing red fruit and floral aromas, the Mataro adding earthy depth, and the Shiraz providing structure and spice. The 2006 vintage was marked by ideal growing conditions, resulting in wines with excellent balance and concentration. Presented in a magnum (1.5L), this format allows for graceful aging, enhancing the wine’s complexity over time.
Appearance: Bright ruby red with a slight brick tinge at the rim, showing both vibrancy and subtle age.
Aroma: The nose is fresh and aromatic, with lively red berry notes of raspberry, strawberry, and cherry, mingling with hints of dried herbs, lavender, and a touch of earthy spice. Subtle undertones of white pepper and licorice enhance the complexity.
Taste: Medium-bodied and silky, the palate bursts with flavours of ripe red fruits like cranberry, raspberry, and cherry, balanced by savoury tones of dried herbs, earthy undertones, and a hint of spice from the Mataro. The absence of oak gives the wine a pure, fruit-driven character, with soft, fine-grained tannins and a refreshing acidity providing lift and balance.
Finish: Long, bright, and clean, with lingering red fruit, a hint of spice, and a delicate floral finish that leaves a refreshing, satisfying impression.
Food Pairings: This GMS blend pairs beautifully with herb-crusted roast chicken, where the wine’s vibrant fruit and herbal notes complement the dish’s flavours. It also works wonderfully with grilled lamb skewers, where the wine’s acidity and freshness balance the richness of the meat.
