Umani Ronchi Pelago 1996 3L
Umani Ronchi Pelago 1996 is a remarkable expression of Umani Ronchi’s dedication to crafting world-class wines. Established in 1957 in the Marche region by the Bianchi-Bernetti family, Umani Ronchi has grown to become one of Italy's most respected wine estates. Known for its innovative approach, Umani Ronchi seamlessly blends tradition with modern techniques, under the leadership of Massimo Bernetti and his son, Michele. The estate is particularly renowned for producing both classic Italian wines and more international-style blends like Pelago.
The Pelago originates from vineyards located in the Marche region, close to the Adriatic Sea. This coastal influence, combined with the area's clay and limestone-rich soils, creates an ideal microclimate for the cultivation of Bordeaux varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, alongside the native Montepulciano grape. The cool sea breezes and sunny days result in grapes with balanced ripeness and structure.
The 1996 vintage of Pelago is a bold and complex blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Montepulciano, and a touch of Merlot. It exhibits aromas of blackcurrant, dark cherries, tobacco, and a hint of cedar. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied with fine tannins and layers of dark fruit, leather, and spice, supported by an elegant acidity. Aged in French oak barrels for about 14 months, the wine develops subtle notes of vanilla and smoke, adding depth and complexity to the ripe fruit flavors. The 1996 vintage, with its excellent aging potential, has evolved beautifully, showcasing the balance and craftsmanship typical of Umani Ronchi wines.
