Van Wyk Olivia Grace White Blend 2021 is a sophisticated and expressive white blend from Van Wyk Family Wines, a boutique producer in South Africa’s Western Cape. Winemaker Justin van Wyk, known for his meticulous and terroir-driven approach, has crafted a unique blend of Chenin Blanc, Roussanne, and Viognier, showcasing the depth, texture, and freshness that the Cape’s cool-climate vineyards can offer. Named after his daughter, Olivia Grace, this wine is an elegant, Rhône-inspired blend that balances vibrant fruit with a refined, layered complexity.

The 2021 vintage benefited from a long, cool ripening season, allowing the grapes to develop intense aromatics while retaining natural acidity. A combination of old-vine fruit, wild yeast fermentation, and ageing in seasoned French oak barrels contributes to the wine’s structure and nuanced character.

Appearance: Pale gold with a brilliant clarity and a slight shimmer, indicating freshness and depth.

Aroma: The nose is beautifully aromatic and layered, featuring ripe stone fruit such as white peach and apricot, intertwined with floral notes of honeysuckle and orange blossom. Subtle hints of almond, beeswax, and a delicate touch of vanilla reflect its time spent in oak.

Taste: Medium-bodied and textural, the palate is a harmonious blend of juicy nectarine, baked pear, and citrus zest, balanced by a creamy mouthfeel. The wine’s natural acidity provides vibrancy, while a fine mineral streak enhances its precision and elegance. Gentle oak integration lends a soft nuttiness and spice without overwhelming the fruit.

Finish: Long and refined, with lingering notes of peach, citrus peel, and a touch of salinity, leaving a refreshing and sophisticated impression.

Food Pairing: Van Wyk Olivia Grace 2021 pairs beautifully with grilled spiced prawns, where its richness and acidity complement the dish’s smoky and savoury elements. It also pairs excellently with roast chicken in a lemon and herb butter, where the wine’s creamy texture and freshness enhance the flavours of the dish. Best enjoyed slightly chilled to bring out its full complexity.
