Warramate Marsanne Roussanne 2022
Warramate Marsanne Roussanne 2022 is a Rhône-inspired white from Gruyere in the Yarra Valley, made under the guidance of Sarah Crowe (also the winemaker at Yarra Yering). The blend is built for both freshness and generosity: Marsanne brings the citrus line, while Roussanne adds that signature waxy, honeyed texture and a softly nutty, savoury depth.
Appearance:
Deepish bright green-gold, clear and luminous, with a slight viscous sheen in the glass.
Aroma:
Apricot and ripe pear lead, followed by honeycomb, blossom and a gentle waxiness. Subtle vanilla and almond-meal notes sit underneath, hinting at the roussanne’s barrel work.
Taste:
Rich and mouth-filling yet well-balanced: lemony citrus drive and orchard fruit through the front palate, then a broader mid-palate of beeswax, stone fruit and soft spice. The texture is the hero—rounded and “waxy” without feeling heavy, finishing dry and composed.
Finish:
Long, gently phenolic and savoury, with lingering apricot, citrus peel and a quiet vanilla hum.
Food Pairing:
Roast chicken with lemon and herbs, grilled pork cutlets, seared scallops, creamy mushroom pasta, haloumi with honey, or Moroccan-spiced vegetables.
