Willows Bonesetter Shiraz 2022
Willows’ Bonesetter Shiraz 2022 is the flagship red from The Willows Vineyard in Light Pass, Barossa Valley—an old family property with deep local history. Named in honour of Johann Gottfried “JG” Scholz (a renowned “bonesetter” and healer), this wine is drawn from a small Shiraz block planted in 1969, and shaped in a bold-but-polished Barossa style: generous dark fruit, savoury depth, and confident French oak, with the structure to cellar well.
Appearance
Deep crimson to inky purple, dense at the core with a youthful, stained rim.
Aroma:
Blackberry, cassis and ripe plum lead, followed by dark chocolate, cocoa powder and cedar-spice. Savoury Barossa notes of smoked meats, dried herbs, and a hint of earth add complexity.
Taste:
Full-bodied and powerful, yet well-focused—plush black fruit and dark berries layered with mocha, spice and savoury oak. The palate carries real drive, with bright acidity keeping the richness in check and fine, satiny tannins giving shape and authority.
Finish:
Long and warming, with lingering black fruit, cocoa, savoury spice and a firm, cellar-worthy tannin trail.
Food Pairing:
Slow-braised beef cheeks, peppered steak, lamb shoulder, BBQ ribs, venison, mushroom and black garlic dishes, or aged hard cheeses (Comté, vintage cheddar).
