Tenuta Luce Lux Vitis 2018
Tenuta Luce is a renowned estate in Montalcino, Tuscany, founded in the 1990s through a partnership between the Frescobaldi family and Robert Mondavi. Lux Vitis, introduced in 2015, is one of the estate’s flagship wines, made predominantly from Cabernet Sauvignon with a small percentage of Sangiovese. The vineyard's terroir is characterised by a combination of clay-limestone soils and a Mediterranean climate, which allows the grapes to develop rich flavours while maintaining balance. Aged for 24 months in French oak barrels, Lux Vitis embodies the estate’s philosophy of blending tradition with modern techniques to produce wines of outstanding quality and complexity.
Appearance: Deep, inky purple with a nearly opaque core and subtle garnet hues at the rim, indicating the wine's richness and concentration.
Aroma: The nose reveals intense aromas of ripe blackberries, cassis, and dark cherries, complemented by notes of tobacco, cedar, and graphite. Subtle hints of mocha, vanilla, and spices from the oak ageing add further complexity.
Taste: Full-bodied and bold, the palate showcases layers of blackcurrant, plum, and dark cherry, with underlying notes of dark chocolate, leather, and a delicate smokiness. The wine is beautifully balanced, with silky tannins and vibrant acidity providing structure and elegance.
Finish: The finish is long and persistent, with ripe fruit, toasted oak, and a savoury mineral character lingering on the palate.
Food Pairings: Perfect with a grilled ribeye steak, where the wine's robust tannins and bold flavours complement the richness of the beef. It also pairs excellently with aged Pecorino cheese, as the wine’s acidity and tannins cut through the cheese's creamy texture, enhancing its nutty flavours.
