Louis Latour, Chateau Corton Grancey 2020
Louis Latour, established in 1797, is a prestigious Burgundy producer renowned for its exceptional wines. The Château Corton Grancey Grand Cru 2020 is a testament to their dedication to quality and tradition.
This wine is a blend of Pinot Noir grapes from five Grand Cru vineyards: Bressandes, Perrières, Grèves, Clos du Roi, and Chaumes. Each parcel is vinified separately and aged in French oak barrels (35% new) for 10 to 12 months before the final blend is crafted. The result is a wine that balances power, elegance, and the distinct character of Corton’s limestone-rich soils.
Appearance: Deep ruby with garnet highlights, indicating both vibrancy and potential for ageing. The wine exhibits excellent clarity, with a luminous core and slightly paler rim. Slow, well-defined tears form on the glass, suggesting a structured yet elegant profile.
Aroma: Complex and inviting, featuring aromas of ripe black cherry, blueberry, and wild strawberry. Notes of mocha, truffle, and earthy forest floor emerge, alongside subtle hints of cedar, dried herbs, and baking spice. The bouquet evolves beautifully with air, revealing layers of sophistication.
Taste: Full-bodied and round, with an opulent yet refined texture. Lush dark berry flavours are complemented by velvety tannins and a core of fresh acidity that keeps the wine lively. Secondary notes of black tea, peppery spice, and crushed violets add depth, while well-integrated oak lends a touch of vanilla and toasty warmth.
Finish: Long and smooth, with lingering notes of dark fruit, cocoa, and a delicate mineral edge. The wine's refined tannins and balanced acidity ensure a graceful, evolving finish, suggesting excellent ageing potential.
Food Pairing: Pairs beautifully with roasted beef, wild boar, duck à l'orange, or a rich mushroom-based dish. It also complements aged cheeses such as Comté or Époisses, enhancing the wine’s complexity and depth.
