Château Mont-Redon, one of the most respected estates in the Rhône Valley, has a long history of producing wines that showcase the region’s exceptional terroir. Known primarily for its Châteauneuf-du-Pape, the estate also crafts outstanding wines from neighbouring appellations, including Gigondas. The estate has been family-owned for generations, with a strong commitment to traditional winemaking techniques and sustainable viticulture.

Gigondas, often considered a more rugged and structured counterpart to Châteauneuf-du-Pape, benefits from its location at the foot of the Dentelles de Montmirail. The vineyards here are planted on limestone and clay soils, with a significant portion of old-vine Grenache contributing depth and complexity to the wines. Château Mont-Redon’s Gigondas is crafted from a blend of Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre, with each varietal carefully vinified to preserve its character. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel, followed by aging in a combination of large oak foudres and used barrels to enhance structure without overpowering the fruit.

Appearance: Deep ruby red with hints of purple at the rim, showcasing its youthful vibrancy. The wine has a dense, almost opaque core, suggesting richness and concentration. Slow-moving legs indicate a generous texture and moderate to high alcohol content.

Aroma: Bold and expressive, with ripe blackberries, dark cherries, and cassis at the forefront. Layers of garrigue—wild thyme, rosemary, and lavender—add a distinctly southern Rhône character. Subtle smoky notes, black pepper, and a touch of leather emerge as the wine opens, revealing its complexity.

Taste: Full-bodied and structured, with luscious dark fruit balanced by fresh acidity. The Grenache-driven core brings rich raspberry and plum, while Syrah adds spiciness and Mourvèdre contributes depth and a touch of savoury game. Silky tannins build gradually, providing a firm yet polished structure. Notes of liquorice, crushed violets, and a hint of cocoa linger on the palate.

Finish: Long and persistent, with dark fruit and spice giving way to earthy, mineral undertones. A lingering note of dried herbs and black olive adds further complexity, making for a sophisticated and satisfying finish.

Food Pairing:
Slow-braised lamb shank with rosemary and garlic, where the wine’s depth and spice complement the rich, tender meat.
Grilled aubergine and roasted red pepper stew, allowing the wine’s fruitiness and herbal notes to enhance the smoky, savoury vegetables
