Lupicaia 2011
Lupicaia 2011 is a distinguished red wine from the Tuscany region in Italy, produced by the esteemed Castello del Terriccio estate. This wine is a blend primarily composed of Cabernet Sauvignon, with smaller proportions of Petit Verdot and occasionally Merlot, reflecting the estate's dedication to crafting Bordeaux-style wines that express the unique Tuscan terroir.
The 2011 vintage experienced a warm growing season, leading to ripe fruit characteristics and a rich flavours profile. The wine underwent fermentation in stainless steel tanks, followed by maturation in French oak barrels for approximately 22 months, allowing for the development of complexity and integration of flavours.
Appearance: Deep, dense ruby with slight garnet hues on the rim, indicating both concentration and some evolution.
Aroma: Compact and finely drawn, opening with notes of cassis and pickled nuts, underpinned by nuances of tobacco and truffle.
Taste: Beautifully ripe fruit on the palate, opening with dense tannins, building well, with a salty character.
Finish: Long finish with a lingering aftertaste.
Food Pairing: This Lupicaia pairs exceptionally well with grilled ribeye steak, where its robust structure complements the richness of the meat. It also harmonizes beautifully with roasted game birds, such as pheasant or quail, enhancing their savory flavours. Decanting for about one hour is recommended to allow the wine to fully express its aromatic complexity.
