Macán Clásico 2019

The Macán Clásico 2019 is a beautifully crafted Rioja from Bodegas Benjamin de Rothschild & Vega Sicilia, a collaboration between two world-renowned winemaking families. The Clásico is the second wine of the estate, offering a more approachable and vibrant expression of Tempranillo, while still reflecting the elegance and precision for which the winery is known. The 2019 vintage, characterised by warm and consistent conditions, results in a wine with ripe fruit, balance, and immediate appeal, while retaining excellent ageing potential.

Appearance: Deep ruby red with purple hues, indicating its youthful vibrancy and depth.

Aroma: The nose is fresh and expressive, with aromas of ripe red and black fruits such as cherry, plum, and blackberry. These are complemented by subtle notes of vanilla, clove, and cinnamon from oak ageing. There are also hints of dried herbs, leather, and a touch of earthy minerality, adding layers of complexity to the bouquet.

Taste: On the palate, this Tempranillo is medium to full-bodied with smooth, well-integrated tannins and bright acidity that adds freshness. The fruit flavours of black cherry, raspberry, and plum are ripe and concentrated, balanced by savoury elements like tobacco, leather, and a slight earthy tone. The oak influence is elegant, providing hints of vanilla, cocoa, and gentle spice without overpowering the fruit. The wine’s structure and balance make it approachable now, yet capable of further development.

Finish: The finish is long and refined, with lingering notes of dark fruit, subtle spice, and a touch of mineral freshness, leaving a harmonious and elegant aftertaste.

Food pairing: This Rioja pairs wonderfully with roasted meats such as lamb, beef, or pork, as well as grilled vegetables and mushroom-based dishes. It also complements Spanish charcuterie like jamón ibérico and chorizo, and aged cheeses like Manchego.
