Brackenwood Vineyard Riesling 2022
Brackenwood Vineyard Riesling 2022 is a distinctive Adelaide Hills Riesling from Brackenwood’s biodynamic, cool-climate estate at Hope Forest in the Southern Adelaide Hills. Owned by Damon Nagel, the estate is known for small-batch wines with a minimal-intervention mindset, and this release leans into a broader, more textural expression of Riesling: made from two picks, fermented in old Hungarian barrels, and taken through malolactic fermentation for added shape and softness.
Appearance:
Pale straw with green flashes, bright and youthful in the glass, suggesting freshness while hinting at a little more texture than a tightly coiled, steelier style.
Aroma:
Aromatic and quietly savoury, with grapefruit, lime zest and white peach lifted by wild thyme, dried herbs and a stony mineral note. The nose feels expressive but composed, with fruit and herbal nuance in fine balance.
Taste:
Dry, textural and rounded, with citrus driving the front palate before softer stone-fruit tones emerge through the middle. The barrel fermentation and malolactic influence give the wine a fuller mouthfeel and a gentler acid line than a classic razor-sharp Riesling, while still preserving clarity and freshness.
Finish:
Long, mineral and persistent, tapering through grapefruit pith, dried herb notes and a lingering acid freshness that keeps the wine precise and appetising.
Food Pairing:
Beautiful with grilled whiting, fresh oysters, Thai-style salads, roast chicken with herbs, or soft goat’s cheese. Its texture also makes it especially good with dishes that carry citrus, olive oil or gentle spice.
