Kershaw, Deconstructed Kogelberg Ironstone CY548 2020
Kershaw’s Deconstructed Kogelberg Ironstone CY548 2020 is a single-vineyard, single-clone Chardonnay from Elgin, crafted in Richard Kershaw’s meticulous, terroir-led style. Austere yet richly layered, it captures the more powerful, mineral side of Chardonnay, balancing breadth and oak complexity with razor-edged freshness and impressive ageing potential.
Appearance:
Pale gold with a bright straw sheen, clear and polished in the glass.
Aroma:
Complex and restrained, with citrus blossom, yellow apple, lemon rind, and frangipane, layered with roasted hazelnut, fine oat-bran notes, and a gentle touch of nutmeg and toast.
Taste:
Full-bodied and concentrated, with a broad, textural mid-palate framed by vibrant acidity. Flavours of yellow apple, citrus pith, apple crumble, and subtle salted caramel unfold over a distinctly stony, savoury core, while the oak adds depth without overwhelming the wine’s precision.
Finish:
Long, structured, and mineral, tapering into pithy citrus, fine spice, and a lingering nutty complexity.
Food Pairing:
Excellent with roast chicken, butter-poached lobster, seared scallops, rich fish dishes, or creamy porcini risotto.
