Domaine Rapet is a historic family estate located in the village of Pernand-Vergelesses in Burgundy, dating back to 1765. Known for producing expressive wines from renowned terroirs, the domaine combines traditional techniques with modern winemaking. The Domaine Rapet Aloxe-Corton Magnum 2019 hails from the village of Aloxe-Corton, a prestigious area in the Côte de Beaune, known for its robust and structured red wines. The 2019 vintage benefitted from warm conditions, which allowed the fruit to reach full ripeness, producing a wine with depth, balance, and aging potential.

Aloxe-Corton, nestled at the foot of the famous Corton hill, is prized for its limestone-rich soils, which lend the wine both power and elegance. Domaine Rapet employs minimal intervention to capture the purity of the fruit and the essence of the terroir, aging the wine in French oak to add complexity.

Appearance: Deep ruby red with a brilliant clarity, showcasing both richness and youth.

Aroma: The nose is intense and complex, with aromas of ripe black cherry, blackberry, and plum, alongside earthy notes of forest floor and subtle spice from oak aging. Hints of violet, tobacco, and leather add further depth.

Taste: On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and structured, offering layers of dark fruit such as blackberry and blackcurrant, complemented by savoury notes of truffle and a touch of clove. The tannins are firm yet well-integrated, providing a smooth texture, while the balanced acidity ensures freshness and liveliness.

Finish: The finish is long and persistent, with lingering notes of dark berries, spices, and a refined minerality that showcases the wine’s aging potential and complexity.

Food pairing: This Aloxe-Corton is an excellent match for roasted lamb or beef, where the wine’s robust structure complements the richness of the meat. It also pairs beautifully with game dishes, such as venison, and earthy mushroom-based dishes, where the wine’s earthy, savoury notes are highlighted.
