Gentlefolk Onkaparinga Valley Sangiovese 2024
Gentle Folk’s Onkaparinga Valley Sangiovese 2024 is a single-vineyard Adelaide Hills take on the variety—lifted, savoury and tightly structured, with that unmistakable Sangiovese interplay of red fruit, citrus peel, ferrous earth and fine, chalky tannin. Made by Gareth and Rainbo Belton from meticulously farmed fruit in Charleston, it’s crafted in a lo-fi, minimal-intervention spirit that keeps the wine vivid, textural and honest to site.
Appearance:
Medium ruby with a bright crimson edge; youthful clarity and a gentle stain that hints at extended time on skins.
Aroma:
Sour cherry, red plum and wild berries, with blood orange and citrus peel lift. Underneath: ferrous earth, crushed stone minerality, fresh herbs and a peppery, savoury spice line.
Taste:
Pure and focused, balancing bright red-fruit energy with a moreish, earthy/savoury core. Textural and refined, driven by fresh acidity and long, silky, chalky tannins—light on its feet, but with real grip and tension.
Finish:
Mouthwatering and persistent—red cherry and orange peel fading into herbs, stony minerality and a lingering, tightening tannin frame.
Food Pairing:
Porchetta or pork sausages with fennel, tomato-based pasta, grilled lamb cutlets, mushroom ragu, eggplant parmigiana, or hard sheep’s milk cheese.
