Haddow + Dineen 'Private Universe' Pinot Noir 2024
Haddow + Dineen’s ‘Private Universe’ Pinot Noir 2024 is a small-batch Tasmanian Pinot drawn from low-yielding vines on the pale quartz-rich soils of Yorktown, near the mouth of the Tamar River. It’s a collaboration between cheesemaker Nick Haddow and highly regarded Tasmanian winemaker Jeremy Dineen, made in their quietly confident house style: wild ferment, minimal handling, and a strong preference for texture and site expression over gloss.
Appearance:
Light-to-medium ruby with a bright, cool-climate sheen; youthful clarity with a fine, stained rim.
Aroma:
Intense dark cherry and wild red berries lead, then cranberry, rhubarb and blood-orange lift. Whole-bunch nuance brings dried herbs, gentle spice, and a faint earthy/forest-floor bass note.
Taste:
Silky yet tightly coiled: vibrant red fruit and savoury spice layered through the mid-palate, framed by “highly strung” acidity and fine, talc-like, grainy tannins. Precise, transparent and structured rather than sweet-fruited.
Finish:
Long, savoury and mineral-edged, with a slow taper of fine tannin and persistent red-fruit perfume.
Food Pairing:
Duck with cherry or beetroot, roast chicken with tarragon, grilled salmon, mushroom risotto, pork schnitzel, or a soft-rind Tasmanian cheese (Brie/Camembert style).
