Henschke’s 'Hill of Grace' Shiraz 2008 is one of Australia's most iconic wines, sourced from ancient, pre-phylloxera vines in the Eden Valley. With a history dating back over 150 years, this single-vineyard wine showcases the unique terroir and craftsmanship that has made Hill of Grace one of the world’s most revered Shiraz wines. The 2008 vintage experienced warm conditions, which allowed for concentrated, ripe fruit balanced by the vineyard's inherent elegance and finesse.

Appearance: Deep garnet with a slightly brick-colored rim, reflecting both concentration and maturity.

Aroma: The nose is complex and powerful, with rich aromas of blackberry, black cherry, and dark plum, interwoven with savoury notes of leather, tobacco, and dried herbs. Secondary and tertiary aromas include hints of cedar, black olive, dark chocolate, and a delicate touch of spice, such as clove and black pepper, further enhancing the wine’s depth.

Taste: On the palate, this Shiraz is full-bodied and opulent, offering layers of dark fruit such as blackberry, plum, and blackcurrant, balanced by savoury notes of earthy truffle, anise, and cured meats. The tannins are firm yet silky, providing structure and elegance, while the wine's vibrant acidity ensures freshness and balance. The oak influence is seamlessly integrated, adding hints of vanilla, cedar, and spice without overpowering the fruit.

Finish: The finish is exceptionally long and persistent, with lingering dark fruit, spice, and earthy, savoury nuances, highlighting the wine’s aging potential and remarkable complexity.

Food pairing: This prestigious Shiraz pairs beautifully with roasted lamb, slow-cooked beef, or game meats like venison, where the wine’s structure and intense flavours complement the richness of the dish. It also works well with aged cheeses like Parmesan or strong cheddar, and can be enjoyed as a contemplative wine on its own for special occasions.
