Mont Redon Lirac 2020

Mont-Redon Lirac is an elegant Rhône Valley wine produced by Château Mont-Redon, one of the most historic estates in the region. Though Château Mont-Redon is best known for its Châteauneuf-du-Pape wines, their Lirac offering is a standout representation of this often-overlooked appellation, located just across the river from Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Lirac wines typically share some of the bold, structured qualities of their famous neighbours, but with a slightly more approachable and fruit-forward style. This blend, primarily composed of Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre, delivers both complexity and drinkability, showcasing the unique terroir of the Lirac region.

Appearance: Deep ruby with purple reflections, showcasing the wine's youthful vibrancy.

Aroma: The nose is expressive and filled with ripe red and black fruits, such as raspberry, blackberry, and cherry, complemented by subtle notes of garrigue, black pepper, and a hint of liquorice. There are also hints of spice, leather, and a touch of minerality.

Taste: Medium to full-bodied, the palate is rich and velvety, offering flavours of dark cherry, blackberry, and plum, with a backdrop of earthy herbs, black pepper, and spice. The tannins are smooth and well-integrated, providing structure without overwhelming the fruit. The Syrah adds a touch of savoury spice and depth, while Grenache contributes a plush, ripe fruit character.

Finish: Long and smooth, with lingering notes of dark fruit, a touch of herbal earthiness, and soft spice. The wine finishes with balanced acidity and fine tannins, making it both approachable now and capable of developing further complexity with age.
