Teusner 'Avatar' GMS 2008 is a captivating blend of Grenache, Mataro (Mourvèdre), and Shiraz, sourced from some of the Barossa Valley’s most treasured old vines. Teusner Wines, founded by Kym Teusner and Mick Page, is known for its dedication to preserving these low-yielding, dry-grown vineyards, which produce fruit with exceptional character and intensity. The 'Avatar' blend showcases the best of the classic Rhône-style varieties, with Grenache providing vibrant fruit, Mataro contributing earthy complexity, and Shiraz adding structure and richness. The 2008 vintage was a warm and fruitful year in the Barossa, producing wines with excellent depth and concentration. This magnum (1.5L) format allows for even longer aging, giving the wine time to fully evolve.

Appearance: Medium ruby with a slight garnet hue at the rim, reflecting its age and development.

Aroma: The nose is complex and inviting, with aromas of ripe red berries, raspberries, and black cherries, followed by layers of dried herbs, earthy notes, and hints of black pepper. There are subtle touches of licorice, tobacco, and dark chocolate, adding to the wine’s aromatic depth.

Taste: Medium to full-bodied, the palate is rich and layered, with juicy flavours of redcurrant, black cherry, and plum. The Mataro brings earthy, savoury notes, while the Shiraz adds a touch of spice and firm structure. Silky tannins and balanced acidity provide a smooth, elegant mouthfeel, with nuances of dried herbs, pepper, and a slight smokiness contributing complexity.

Finish: Long and seamless, with lingering red fruit, soft spices, and a savoury, slightly mineral-driven finish, reflecting the harmony of the blend.

Food Pairings: This GMS blend is an excellent match for roasted lamb with rosemary, where its earthy, savoury notes complement the meat’s flavours. It also pairs wonderfully with grilled Mediterranean vegetables, where the wine’s bright fruit and herbal undertones enhance the dish’s rustic character.
