Greenock Creek, famed for its powerful and intensely concentrated wines from the Barossa Valley, is known for producing some of the finest expressions of both Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon. The Greenock Creek Roennfeldt Road Cabernet Sauvignon 2018 is a standout wine from their prestigious Roennfeldt Road vineyard, where low-yielding old vines produce fruit of exceptional intensity and complexity. The 2018 vintage showcases a Cabernet Sauvignon with immense structure, dark fruit richness, and excellent aging potential, crafted with a focus on minimal intervention to highlight the vineyard’s terroir.

Appearance: Deep, inky purple with a dark core, reflecting the concentration of the wine.

Aroma: The nose is complex and powerful, with intense aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, and dark plum, interwoven with earthy undertones of cedar, tobacco, and graphite. Subtle notes of dried herbs, liquorice, and a hint of dark chocolate add layers of complexity, along with a delicate touch of vanilla and spice from oak aging.

Taste: On the palate, this Cabernet Sauvignon is full-bodied and muscular, offering flavours of ripe black fruits such as blackcurrant, plum, and blueberry. The wine’s firm tannins give it an impressive structure, while underlying notes of black olive, tobacco, and dark chocolate add savoury depth. The oak influence is seamlessly integrated, bringing subtle vanilla and spice, without overwhelming the purity of the fruit.

Finish: The finish is long and lingering, with persistent dark fruit, earthy tones, and fine tannins, showing great balance and a clear indication of its aging potential.

Food pairing: This Roennfeldt Road Cabernet Sauvignon pairs beautifully with rich dishes such as roasted lamb, grilled ribeye steak, or slow-braised beef, where the wine’s structure and tannins complement the bold, meaty flavours. It also pairs well with aged cheeses, particularly strong varieties like cheddar or gouda, and hearty dishes such as beef stew or venison.
