2015 Château Cantemerle is a distinguished Haut-Médoc Fifth Growth (Cinquième Cru) from the 1855 Bordeaux Classification, known for its refined structure and age-worthy elegance. Situated in the southern part of the Médoc, Château Cantemerle has a long history of producing classic Left Bank wines that balance power with finesse.

The 2015 vintage was an outstanding year for Bordeaux, characterised by warm conditions that led to beautifully ripe fruit, excellent concentration, and polished tannins. This wine is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot, showcasing the estate’s signature style of complexity and balance.

Appearance: Deep, luminous ruby-red with subtle garnet reflections at the rim, displaying remarkable clarity and elegance. The wine showcases medium viscosity, gently coating the glass with slow-moving, defined legs, illustrating its poised maturity and refined texture

Aroma: The nose is expressive and elegant, featuring blackcurrant, blackberry, and dark cherry, interwoven with notes of cedar, tobacco, and violets. Subtle hints of graphite, mocha, and dried herbs add further complexity.

Taste: Medium-bodied and structured, the palate unfolds with layers of ripe dark fruit, cassis, and plum, complemented by savoury notes of earth, pencil lead, and spice. The tannins are fine-grained yet firm, providing excellent ageing potential, while a fresh acidity ensures balance and refinement. Well-integrated oak contributes hints of vanilla, toasted cedar, and a touch of cocoa.

Finish: Long and poised, with lingering dark fruit, subtle spice, and a classic Médoc minerality, leaving a refined and harmonious impression.

Food Pairing: 2015 Château Cantemerle pairs beautifully with grilled ribeye steak, where its tannins and dark fruit enhance the richness of the meat. It also complements duck confit with wild mushrooms, as the wine’s structure and earthy notes harmonise with the dish’s deep flavours. Decanting for one hour is recommended to allow the wine’s complexity to fully emerge.
