Domaine Alain Gautheron is a family-owned winery in Fleys, near Chablis, Burgundy, with over seven generations of expertise in producing classic Chablis wines. Known for its commitment to traditional methods, the domaine focuses on expressing the purity of Chardonnay and the unique terroir of the region. The Domaine Alain Gautheron Chablis 2022 captures the hallmark qualities of Chablis: freshness, minerality, and elegance, while using minimal intervention in the winemaking process to allow the vineyard’s natural character to shine.

Chablis is renowned for its Kimmeridgian limestone soils, rich in fossilised marine shells, which impart the signature flinty minerality to its wines. The cool climate of the region preserves the Chardonnay’s natural acidity, creating wines that are crisp, vibrant, and full of clean, precise flavours. The 2022 vintage highlights a perfect balance between ripe fruit and refreshing acidity, with a distinct mineral edge.

Appearance: Bright pale golden-straw colour with soft greenish reflections, showcasing exceptional clarity and luminosity. Its refined transparency is complemented by gentle viscosity, leaving delicate, graceful tears cascading gently down the glass

Aroma: Bright and fresh aromas of green apple, lemon zest, and pear mingle with subtle notes of wet stone, white flowers, and a hint of sea breeze, showcasing the wine’s characteristic minerality.

Taste: On the palate, the wine is crisp and lively, with flavours of citrus, lemon, grapefruit, and green apple, underscored by a distinctive chalky minerality. The refreshing acidity provides great balance, keeping the flavours vibrant and clean.

Finish: The finish is long and precise, leaving lasting impressions of citrus, green apple, and a flinty, mineral texture, characteristic of classic Chablis.

Food pairing: This Chablis pairs wonderfully with fresh oysters, where the wine’s crisp acidity and mineral notes complement the briny, oceanic flavours of the shellfish. It also pairs beautifully with grilled sea bass with lemon butter, as the wine’s citrusy freshness and minerality balance the richness of the fish.
