Bream Creek Riesling 2024
Bream Creek is one of Tasmania’s pioneering wineries, with a reputation for producing exceptional cool-climate wines that reflect the unique terroir of the island. Established in 1973, the vineyard is located on Tasmania’s southeast coast, benefiting from the cool maritime climate and long growing season, which allows the grapes to develop intense flavours while retaining vibrant acidity. The Bream Creek Riesling is a standout wine, consistently recognized for its purity, balance, and aging potential. The 2024 vintage, thanks to favourable growing conditions, is fresh, lively, and poised for immediate enjoyment or extended aging.
Tasmania’s cooler temperatures and pristine environment contribute to the wine’s characteristic bright acidity and pronounced minerality. Bream Creek focuses on minimal intervention in the winery, allowing the natural expression of the grapes and terroir to shine.
Appearance: Pale straw with greenish tints, reflecting its youth and freshness.
Aroma: Aromas of lime zest, green apple, and white blossoms leap from the glass, along with hints of wet slate and a touch of jasmine. There’s also a faint whiff of sea spray, reflecting its coastal origins.
Taste: Crisp and vibrant, the palate bursts with flavours of citrus—lime and lemon—alongside green pear and Granny Smith apple. There’s a beautiful tension between the bright fruit and the wine’s steely acidity. Subtle notes of minerality and flint add complexity, giving the wine a refreshing, clean edge.
Finish: Long and zesty, with lingering citrus and mineral notes. The acidity ensures the wine finishes on a mouthwatering, refreshing note, perfect for pairing with food or sipping on its own.
Pairings: Freshly shucked oysters, where the briny, mineral notes of the oysters will be complemented by the wine’s citrus and acidity, making for an incredibly refreshing pairing.
Tempura duck eggs with spinach, olive soil, and truffle paprika emulsion. The wine’s bright acidity will cut through the richness of the tempura and truffle, while its citrus notes will lift the earthy flavours of the spinach and olive soil.
