Jasper Hill Georgia's Vineyard Riesling 2023
Jasper Hill, established in 1975 by Ron and Elva Laughton in Heathcote, Victoria, is renowned for its biodynamically farmed vineyards. The estate's 'Georgia's Paddock' Riesling, first produced in 1984, has become a standout in their portfolio.
The 2023 vintage marks a welcome return after previous challenges due to drought and heat. The grapes are sourced from a three-hectare plot of un-irrigated, organic vines, yielding about one ton per acre. The vineyard's iron-rich Cambrian clay and volcanic basalt soils contribute to the wine's distinctive character.
Appearance: Pale lemon-yellow hue.
Aroma: Fragrant notes of white flowers, honey, and lemongrass.
Taste: Approachable flavours of lime and mandarin, with acidity providing length and focus. A touch off-dry, balanced by a subtle phenolic texture.
Finish: Cleansing, long, acid-driven, and ultra-dry.
Food Pairings: This Riesling pairs wonderfully with spicy Asian dishes and seafood. The 2023 Georgia's Paddock Riesling received a score of 94/100 from The Real Review.
